Baychester Youth Council’s Adult Literacy programs help adult learners to improve their income and lives by gaining the skills they need to compete in New York’s competitive economy. Whether you need computer skills or to complete the your high school education, BYC is prepared to provide you with the education and job training resources you need to gain your GED, to prepare for college, to advance at work or to simply enter the job market. If you’re not entirely certain about how to get to where you’d like to go or need help in gaining new direction, our academic and career counselors are here to provide the guidance you need to set off on a promising new pathway.

BYC offers daytime and evening sessions with New York State certified teachers to provide you with the flexibility you need to meet the needs of your family or your current employer. Morning sessions are scheduled from 10am to 2pm from Tuesday through Thursday at the New York City Housing Authorities newly-renovated Edenwald Community Center, which is located at 1150 East 229th Street in the Baychester section of the Bronx. Evening sessions are offered from 7pm to 10pm at the Baychester Community Center, which is located at 1229 East 229th Street – just half a block away. The Baychester Community Center, which was constructed in 2002, is also the site of a New York State GED testing center that is operated by BYC.
